Less than half of Americans have been vaccinated against COVID-19, and the Biden Administration wants to raise those numbers by any means necessary. Herd immunity against COVID is not attainable by voluntary vaccination in the United States. Biden’s call to vaccinate 200 million Americans in 100 days is not enough, but his people are working on a scheme to overcome that obstacle.
A vaccine passport scheme is a way to compel vaccination by those who would prefer not to receive it. If such a system were to be put in place, Americans would be restricted from going to restaurants, sports games, or other venues unless they can prove that they have been vaccinated. This kind of drastic action would have a lot of unpleasant side effects for citizens, businesses, and more.
Remember, less than half of Americans are vaccinated, so making vaccines mandatory for going to restaurants would inevitably lead to a substantially smaller customer base for businesses overall. This would cause some businesses to go bankrupt. As of now, we have no assurances of what specific places Americans would be excluded from going to. At a time when so many freedoms are already being violated, one has to wonder whether we would be required to get vaccinated in order to attend our own churches, synagogues, or other houses of worship. Call me an alarmist, but as someone who has spent more than a year in “15 Days to Slow the Spread,” I am naturally skeptical when the government promises to limit its own power.
Speaking of which, we have no assurances that this type of passport will be limited to the COVID-19 vaccine. Soon it would include other health and personal information about each of us, including what we have said and where we have been. For example, it could include information about whether someone was in Washington, D.C., on January 6th for the Trump rally, or any political rally disfavored by the liberal media. It could include whether someone has been vaccinated against diseases other than COVID-19. Once America goes down this road, there are no limits on how far we could go. Vaccine passports are not a reasonable solution to America’s problems.
