Before he left, though, he did what he could to get McDaniel into the chair position. She should have stepped down after the 2020 mess, but she is doing it now. Now, Trump has the opportunity to back a new candidate for the RNC chair. This is a very important position, especially during the election cycle, for fundraising and getting out the vote.
