Real Aim of Gun Control Posturing Is to Disarm Law-Abiding Citizens, Not Reduce Violent Crime
Washington, D.C.: “All the way from Biden’s White House to the depths of social media insanity, a quick look at this week’s ridiculous arguments against gun ownership leaves little room for interpreting the left’s motives,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “Emboldened by Canada’s handgun sales and transfer freeze, the House of Representatives is set to pass major gun control legislation this week. A quick look over the text, though, shows that not a single bit of it would have stopped the Uvalde, Texas killer. All of these measures would only serve to restrain the law-abiding gun owner, not the criminal already bent on violating the rights of others.”
“The simple fact is that the political left isn’t doing anything to stop mass killers or violent crime in America,” Martin continued. “They’re twisting and turning every definition to pass sweeping measures against gun ownership, when they know very well those will not affect mass shootings in any meaningful way. There are many practical solutions that could be implemented nearly overnight, but Democrats aren’t interested in legislating those. Instead, they aim for the extreme goal of removing guns from civilian hands. Not only is that unattainable, it’s completely irrelevant to the root of this problem.
“We must examine the sickness in our culture that leads people to commit such atrocities against innocent children. It’s not about the choice of weapon, it’s about the broken values and broken families that produce these mentally disturbed individuals! We must recognize that evil exists and we—not some distant government entity—are responsible for protecting our families, our neighbors, and innocent life around us. We cannot allow statist Democrats to continue decaying our American culture while simultaneously taking away our chief means to protect ourselves from the rotted fruits of their labor.”
