An alarming pattern is emerging at the southern border. In one week, the Border Patrol had to take about 3,000 children into custody. Because of the sheer volume, half had to be held over the 72-hour limit. One week later, the numbers doubled. More than 6,000 children were taken into custody. The numbers coming in each day quickly grew to astronomical proportions, almost double the average rate of the previous month. Where are they coming from? Why is this happening all of the sudden? To those who have been paying attention, the answer is clear.
The Biden Administration announced that it does not return unaccompanied children to their home countries. With that open invitation, the children started coming in droves. It is no coincidence that the sharp increase began shortly after Biden took office. No end is in sight. Apparently, millions in Central America think that Biden wants them to come here. Who could blame them? This is the rhetoric Democrats have been pushing since Donald Trump made immigration a top national issue in 2015.
However, it seems even some Democrats are surprised by how effective their rhetoric has been. These border Democrats have made the bold choice to begin criticizing Biden right along with Republicans. Biden steadfastly refused to take a phone call from Democrat Congressman Henry Cuellar, who represents a district near the border in Texas where he is experienced in dealing with this issue. According to Rep. Cuellar, “His people need to do a better job of listening to those of us who have done this before.”
As Rep. Cuellar made abundantly clear, when even Democrats are openly acknowledging the problem, you know it’s getting bad. Regardless of your political inclinations, anyone who has been to the border can see that Biden’s policies are disastrous. It is painfully obvious that he is not mentally up to the task of resolving this vexing issue, particularly when open borders are the goal of many Biden voters. This problem is getting worse every day, and it will not solve itself. America needs the actions of a decisive and powerful leader to bring an end to the crisis.
