Critical Race Theory (CRT) and related social-justice ideologies have fully infiltrated K-12 education. This has rightfully prompted backlash from concerned parents and educators. In response to the concerned parents, Attorney General Merrick Garland has amazingly threatened federal retaliation against parent dissidents.
Over the last few years, educators have attempted to obfuscate the true nature of these ideologies by repackaging them under different labels. One such tactic involves “media literacy” programs that, despite their seemingly benign titles, promote progressive principles and critical media literacy.
Jane Robbins wrote in the Federalist that these programs aim to indoctrinate students with a critical view of media through a social-justice lens. As John Sailer from the National Association of Scholars points out, these curricula often emphasize power dynamics and identity politics, rather than genuine media skills. Workshops and guides from conferences and publications advocate for teaching media literacy through the concepts of oppression and domination. This embeds a progressive worldview into what should be neutral educational content.
The Biden administration’s support for information literacy over the last 4 years further reveals the political nature of these programs. Progressive educators are employing deceitful methods to integrate CRT into classrooms. Parents must remain vigilant, scrutinizing every educational program to ensure they do not covertly advance a leftist agenda disguised as educational improvement.
The American public education system is in dire need of conservative oversight. The teachers unions and the Department of Education’s unelected bureaucrats skew overwhelmingly toward the left. Yet these are the people choosing what our children learn, and they face little or no accountability.
When you hear left-wingers talk the big talk about media literacy, understand that it is just coded language for radical leftwing indoctrination, and it must be opposed.
